My Ideal Pet
Have you ever been window-shopping, looking in store windows to discover what the latest cellphone models or clothing styles are or whether there are new games or amazing cars you’ve never seen before?
Another pleasant pastime that is often rewarding is animal-hopping. Even when there is none in particular that you need, you can enjoy taking an unhurried look at what is on the chambers, and you may come across an ideal pet that you didn’t dream existed.
Crazy how things happen, isn’t it? And usually when you least expect it. This flashback happened since I was still in my elementary days. I had once Reming, a lovable pussy of mine named after Remi — a morning cartoon show in ABS-CBN Channel 2. Reming is cute with those pretty green eyes and a stuffed toy like furriness. It took a week before I realized that Reming is a male cat. I used to tie pink ribbons on his four feet and as expected, I was also being used to seeing him trying to remove it away. Until my father told me that I was making my cat a gay. Funny, huh! From then on, I treated him like a cat next door since he had many girl cats around him. Thank God, he’s not capable of producing offspring which would definitely make my mom and my cousin’s life disastrous. They hate additional wastes like his furs and the torn pieces of magazines and newspapers. They kept on telling me to never ever let Reming stay inside the bedroom for I may acquire asthma from the poor cat. It was as if I always hug and kiss him, but of course not! Like most cats do, he was also afraid of water thus making him not so clean. I was contented of touching his face and back, playing with him and washing my hands with soap and water and applying alcohol after that. So hygienic, right? Going back, it was really hard for me to stop him from getting inside the room because there were times I wake up and was even surprised knowing that he was behind my feet, sleeping like an angel without wings and with four small feet. Sooner or later, the whole family became fond of Reming’s naughtiness. The habit of eating lunch and dinner with him became regular. We even celebrated his birthdays, the day when Miemie gave birth to an endearing kitten. Unfortunately, few days after his third birthday, (also pertaining to the third year of living with us) one sad morning we just saw his cold and lifeless body on the backyard. The elders believed that he had fought with a snake, bloods on his nose proved it. I could still remember how tears fell down from my sister’s and my own eyes while father carefully buried Reming’s
corpse in the vacant lot near our house. His physical presence may be gone but the happy memories he left us will always remain in our hearts.
Until now, I still miss the way he walked like a model and his meows that sound pleasant to the ears. I miss how he scratched our dog’s face whenever the latter tries to steal his food. Reming often hang himself by putting his paws tightly to the hanging laundries. I wonder why the laundries still remained on its good quality or maybe Reming was just not too heavy. Even though he’s just a street cat, he had never been caught stealing some foods on the table. The long sofa in the living room served as the best place for him to take a rest especially when the day was over. Reming, who was thought of as a superstar was often the talk of the people in the house. We always argue about the true color of his furs whether it is orange or brown. I personally believed that it was orange, a color combination of red and yellow. But they, including my English teacher, insisted that there’s no such orange cat in this world so Reming is brown. Well, it really doesn’t matter. I felt lucky to have him as a pet and I would never forget his sweetness especially those long and shiny whiskers of him which I planned to cut before. Reming was quite thin and had a not very pleasant “perfume” but we fell in love with him just the same as he loved us.
I’m looking forward to have a single cat sharing both good qualities of Reming and a dog. It would be impossible to list all the things that will make that cat special, but I can say that a few of them are that he or she should be affectionate, intelligent and cuddly.
This is how I wish my future cat to be. Let’s try a female cat this time.
She gets along with all cats, very playful, loves to eat food out of my hand, can be picked up if approached properly, extremely soft hair, might be a good outdoor and indoor cat. I can bring her with me to the church without being hassled. She probably loves all other pets in the house. She can kill a rat but never eats it as well to chicks. She rubs against furniture or walls when I walk in the room. She loves watching the birds excellent with the litter box. She is affectionate and likes to wind around people’s legs. She gets suspicious under some circumstances, but has never offered to bite or scratch. She just moves off and keeps to herself for a while. She is smart and trainable, hippy and trendy. She knows how to flush the toilet. She can buy foods with a basket carried through her mouth. She is eager in answering mathematical problems, addition and subtraction in particular. She loves to lie beside me. She is comfortable of wearing cat dress, shades, and ribbons. She likes to eat a lot but not so demanding. She welcomes me dearly everytime I come home from school and then she will provide my slippers. She is also talented, can dance gracefully and not camera-shy. She also doesn’t purr – not everytime. She always smells good and huggable. A long time playing under the sun doesn’t ruin her smell! She loves to have a bubble bath. She is a perfectly marked, and she is everything that I could have hoped for and more. She has a very loving, cheeky and captivating nature. She loves all the attention that she can get and more. She has lovely big boning, good size and type, absolutely gorgeous coat and amazing eyes and eye color – green will be nice. I can be very proud of this cat and I look forward to watching her grow and strut her stuff on the show bench! Most of all, I can call her a best friend!
When the time comes that I may have a pet possessing these qualities, everyone can assure that Reming’s place in my heart will still be preserved no matter what happens.
I love cats, all kinds of cats. I know cats. I want to help everybody live in harmony with the cats around . If you love cats, love their colors, eyes, whiskers and fur; if you love their purrs, chirps and meows; then you love cats, too! Cats will always be cats and they will always be around. So start loving cats and start also thinking of your ideal pet!
You can choose whatever kind of pet/s you want but don’t forget to love them unconditionally. It doesn’t matter what he/she is, just treat him/her as one of the members in your family. Remember, God created all of us equally.
